Metal-Free Fillings

“We want people to see you, not your dentistry!” Achieve the natural look you were born with by means of metal-free fillings. Escondido family dentist, Dr. Todd McMaster, provides superior materials, instruments, and service to our patients.

What is a metal-free filling?

A metal-free filling is a white, tooth-colored filling, made of plastic resin and finely ground glass-like particles. It is used to fill a damaged or decayed area of your tooth.

Why are metal-free fillings preferred?

Metal-free fillings:

  • Don’t contain mercury
  • Offer a natural and aesthetic look
  • Minimally expand/contract with temperature changes
  • Are strong and resilient

Regrettably, silver or mercury fillings (also called amalgam fillings), create cracks in the teeth and can darken or stain them. Amalgam fillings push against the tooth structure with temperature changes, causing possible fractures. This permits bacteria to enter the tooth and cause decay. Metal fillings also contain mercury, which can be hazardous to your health and damaging to your teeth.

At McMaster Dental, we create a chemical bond between the tooth and your metal-free filling to achieve long-lasting benefits. Only you are aware of the work you had done because the metal-free filling is inconspicuous and unnoticeable to the outside world.

Dr. Todd McMaster and our team at McMaster Dental choose not to supply metal amalgam fillings for Escondido and surrounding area patients. Instead, we advocate metal-free fillings to keep you mercury-free. Schedule your appointment today to have a natural, metal-less, and brilliant smile!
